How Superman Icon Christopher Reeve Inspired Spin Doctors Bassist Mark White

Mark White, the original bass player for ‘90s pop icons the Spin Doctors, credits Superman: The Movie star Christopher Reeve with helping to shape his approach to fame.

White, a native New Yorker, told Emerald City Video during a recent interview that he never understood celebrities who hid from their fans. Instead, he said, he took inspiration from Reeve, who gave generously of his time when he met White on the streets of New York.

“You know, I was before I was famous…” — he says famous with a bit of a scoff — “I was walking down the street on Columbus Avenue. It’s a beautiful day, and I saw Christopher Reeve walking towards me. In New York City, there’s this thing where you see a celebrity, they see, they know that you saw them. They see you, and you just silently acknowledge each other, you know what I mean?”
