Jason Voorhees Comes to Dead By Daylight, Immediately Breaks Records
The slasher's arrival drew thousands of new users to the long-running game
Celebrating 10 years of the beloved horror video game Dead by Daylight, iconic slasher Jason Voorhees waded into The Fog with a new update that officially surpassed DbD’s previous highest concurrent player count across all platforms.
With over 250,000 players, Jason’s arrival is also Steam’s #1 selling game this week, making history for the long-running horror MMORPG. The thousands of new players marks the second year in a row that Dead by Daylight has gown its player count, suggesting that it’s still thriving after a decade online.
The groundbreaking horror multiplayer from Behaviour Interactive hosted a day-long fan event in Montreal’s Old Port on Sunday, filled with panels, meet-and-greets, art, photo ops, and more.
During the event, the development team took to the stage to tease what’s coming next for the game. That’s where they announced the Jason Universe collaboration, as well as teasing original and licensed expansions coming soon.
Per a press release, the next new chapter will be Dead by Daylight: The Life Road, a survivor-focused chapter featuring original character Shane Wiigwaas, the game’s first Indigenous Survivor. That one releases on June 25.
This August, fans will get Dead By Daylight: Chorus of Sin, developed in collaboration with the game’s community, and then in November Dead by Daylight: Terrifier will bring Art the Clown along.
At the same event, Behaviour Interactive Executive Vice President Stephen Mulrooney updated fans on producer Jason Blum’s planned Dead by Daylight movie, with a screenplay by Alexandre Aja and David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick already completed. Thordur Palsson will direct the film, which Blumhouse and Behaviour hope to get in front of cameras soon.
