Lucy Davis, Star of Wonder Woman and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Reveals Cancer Diagnosis
The British star also appeared in The Office and Shaun of the Dead
Lucy Davis, the British comedienne and actor best known for her roles in The Office and Wonder Woman, announced on social media this week that she has stage four breast cancer. According to Davis, the cancer has already spread to her bones, and chemotherapy is no longer a viable option.
“The cancer is incurable, and too late for chemo,” Davis wrote on Instagram, adding, “As of now, I’m trying to live out whatever might be left of my life in as fun a way as I possibly can. I always like to find the teachable moments in anything negative that happens. And cancer has not disappointed in that regard; there’s a lot I have learned from it, and I’m grateful for that.”
The Instagram post features a lengthy statement, along with a short video taken at a cancer treatment center.
Davis first rose to prominence for her role on The BBC’s The Office, in which she played Dawn Tinsley, one half of the series’ canon couple (the other, Tim, was played by future Marvel star Martin Freeman). She would go on to appear in a number of cult-favorite series, including Black Books, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, Reaper, and The Mentalist, as well as appearing briefly in 2004’s Shaun of the Dead.
By 2017, Davis was recognizable in the U.S. as well as the U.K. when she was cast as Etta Candy in Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman. Beginning the following year, she would bring another comic book character to life as Hilda Spellman on The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. She would also appear as a supervillain — although ironically not one who has ever appeared in a comic book — on Disney’s Villains of Valley View.
Davis has struggled with her health for much of her life. By 30, she had already received a kidney transplant. She has also lived for years with Type 1 Diabetes.
