New "U.S. Militia" Commander is Masked Gunman From Arizona Voting

Apologies it’s been a long time since my last post. The lawsuit is taking up a bunch of my time and mental energy. Thank you so much to those who have supported me at the GoFundme. I have found a lawyer, we’re working out details now.

Ok, so at the top of this piece let’s deal with the fact that militia’s are local and state level entities. There should not be such a thing as an “U.S. Militia.” That’s an army.

Last month I covered Jake Lang’s sad event in Colonial Williamsburg, Va. You can read about it below.

I stand corrected - It was not actually Jake Lang who organized the three person rally in front of the the Colonial Williamsburg Lululemon last week. It was, in fact the U.S. Militia Commander Elias Humiston who goes by “OldGhost” on twitter. As someone who has been covering men with guns for a long while, this was one of the more cringe-inducing events I’ve covered of my career.

When I write about actors over at ECV Podcast I might say, “you might remember him from ______” to give people an idea of where this actor is better known from.

Hi! You may remember me from such films as...,'. Troy McClure. The Simpsons. (1991-1998) : r/nostalgia
You might remember Troy McClure 'P is for Psycho' and 'The President's Neck is Missing!'

When it comes to Elias Humiston, you might remember him as one of the armed masked men intimidating Arizona voters back in 2022. He was at the time an award winning member of the American Patriots Three Percent (AP3). According to this excellent report from Propublica by Joshua Kaplan, members that militia fought with police officers at the January 6th insurrection and had planned much worse. They were ready to as one member said, “mad max this shit.”

Two years later in 2022 the the AP3’s National Commander Scot Seddon told his members: “This election is do or die for us.” From the ProPublica report:

Seddon wanted AP3 to fan out across the country, stake out ballot boxes and deter fraudulent voting, which he claimed was rampant during the 2020 election. “We’re trying to persuade these people maybe that’s not such a good idea,” Seddon said about supposed liberal ballot stuffers. “There’s a large group of what look like some pretty badass patriots outside.” The operation was shortly underway in Arizona, Colorado and Michigan, though it’s unclear how many members heeded Seddon’s call.

Absentee ballots had barely made it into voters’ mailboxes before it all went awry. Eubanks posted a handheld video of a television screen in an internal chat: “NBC Nightly News” was showing surveillance footage of a man in Maricopa County, Arizona. The man hadn’t been identified, but inside AP3, they knew who he was: a Marine veteran named Elias Humiston. Several years before, he had pleaded guilty to an illegal firearm discharge. Now he was at the center of a national news cycle.

Humiston was captured on camera outside a drop box for absentee ballots. His face was masked, and he had a handgun and wore a tactical vest. He had gotten into a confrontation with a woman who tried to record his license plate, prompting the sheriff’s department to arrive.

This post from activist SatireAP aka Anarchy Princess connected the two.

The always excellent Arizona Right Watch has extensive saved videos and photos of Humiston stalking around the Maricopa Tabulation Center in 2022. Humiston never saw any charges from that voter intimidation and even continued to intimidate election officials by joining the rallies outside the Arizona vote counting facilities.

Soon after images of Humiston intimidating voters and vote counters went viral he left the AP3 “to protect” to protect them.

Since then he’s been traveling around giving speeches about how the 2022 Arizona election was “stolen, flat out.” In his talk he went on to claim that he had “dropbox mules” stuffing ballots and “vote counts chang[ing] on television.” He also continued the debunked claim that wifi signals were coming out of computer polling stations and so many others… including the U-Haul truck conspiracy that seems to pop-up ever election and continues to cause problems as recent as this month.

Now it seems he’s moved back to the militia movement. Two months ago, wearing all camo, because of course, he spoke to the Virginia Beach Tea Party promoting his new “US Militia.” In his hour long speech to the group he pushed the militia’s version of the 2nd Amendment, which I’m sure that the Tea Party group was hospitable to and claimed that during his time with AP3 at the Mexican border he saw “100,000 military aged males” Some of the other people that crossed that border are 100,000 military aged males, Chinese, who are PLA [People’s Liberation Army] trained, that’s the Communist Chinese Army. They are in our nation today.”

This claims matches a Trump conspiracy claim from two years ago. In a campaign speech in Schnecksville, PA in April 2024, Trump said, “They’re coming in from China, 31-32,000 over the last few months and they’re all military age. And they’re mostly men. And it sounds like to me, are they trying to build a little army in our country… is that what they’re trying to do?

In an NPR report dealing with similar claims about an influx of Chinese immigrants a month earlier quoted Doug Ligor, a federal immigration lawyer and researcher at Rand, "Shouldn't the question be 'What is the evidence that unauthorized migrants are a threat?’ I'm not sure I understand why the migrant community is being asked to prove a negative when those making the claim of the existence of the threat haven't provided any valid studies to show that."

If you’re in a militia in 2026, facts don’t matter and when you’re wearing camo, you don’t have to show evidence. On July 1st Humiston will be back in Colonial Williamsburg protesting a newly passed law restricting the sale and manufacture of “assault-style” weapons in Virginia. The plan of Humiston and of course his new friend, Jake Lang (assuming he isn’t in jail) is to rally with thousands of gun toting Virginians at the family oriented historical park and express their grievances.

Lang, (who, depending on when you read this article) is in jail in Texas or another state for terroristic threats, or threatening a police officer, or destroying an anti-ICE sculpture (I feel like I’m missing one?) will also be in attendance. As all of his firearms are in Florida, no telling if anyone will let him borrow a rifle like Humiston did at the May 13th rally in Williamsburg.

Either way, keep an eye on this duo in future… especially if you work at a Lululemon.
