Stoneman Douglas Gets Clear Backpacks - It's Clear They Don't Like Them
Since we as a society won't do anything substantial to prevent school shootings school administrators usually just end up punishing students. It was that way at my Upstate NY high school after Columbine. Not much has changed in the nearly 20 years since. This week Stoneman Douglas Students received donated clear backpacks. The use of the clear backpacks, which would have done nothing at all to prevent the mass murder of their friends and teachers are mandatory.
Thousands of clear backpacks were donated to MSD...it’s a shame b/c they should’ve been given to a school that actually needs the supplies. But since we’re stuck with them, I decided to make the most out of the situation & decorate!! 👊🏼#MarchForOurLives pic.twitter.com/dgW7uNN536

So like all kids who are forced to do something like don't want to do - they made the best of it, and mocked the people in power that forced them to do it. This instagram page, that a SD Highschool senior and aspiring photographer, Lex Michael shared on her twitter has been compiling the fantastic examples of quiet rebellion. Here are just a couple of my favorites. Head over to the page and give the kids some positive encouragement.
We should hand these to the NRA for their blood money

Fuck the NRA! Comin' straight from the underground A young Student got it bad ‘cause I'm let down And not the other party, so NRA think They have the authority to buy off a majority Fuck that shit, ‘cause I ain't the one For a punk motherfucker with some money and a gun To be bullying on, and laughing at me whole We can go toe-to-toe in the middle of a poll (voting) Fuckin' with me ‘cause I'm a teenager With a little bit of knowledge - and some flavor Searchin' my bag, lookin' for the gun Thinkin' every student got one You'd rather silence me by the ten Than me and Sanders rollin' in a Benz-o Beat the NRA out of shape And when I'm finished, bring the yellow tape ... I tried yo, Original Song: N.W.A - Fuck the Police

UPDATE:
Today, @PrincipalMSD stopped by the newspaper room and reminded us that MSD admin is on our side. No one wants the school to become a prison. Not a single teacher that I’ve spoken to yet has embraced the clear backpacks idea. We’re going to cooperate for now, though.
