The DoorDash Grandma is a GOP Prop
To no ones surprise this isn't the first time she's appeared to prop up of the Big Beautiful Bill's BS.
Less than a year ago Sharon Simmons of Nevada testified in favor of the Big Beautiful Bill’s no tax on tips provision. She gave what seemed like a heartfelt testimony in front of the Ways and Means committee about how she needed to start gig working with DoorDash because her husband was going through cancer treatments. The GOP leapt on what they saw as a sympathetic working class woman pulling herself up by her bootstraps.
Of course, the Republican Congressman would not be mentioning to her that at the same time as she was testifying the GOP was working hard to cut funding on cancer research.
”The federal government cut approximately $2.7 billion in National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding over the first 3 months of 2025, including a 31% decrease in funding for cancer research through March 2025 compared with the same timeframe of the previous year.”
In Nevada people like Simmons, thanks to GOP cuts are already looking at dramatically higher premiums if they buy their health insurance through ACA. A study from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation released in March found that thanks to the cuts in the BBB 145,000 Nevadans could lose Medicaid.
All of this has happened in the short time between her testimony and her knock at the door of the White House earlier today.
Simmons seems to be willing to be a GOP prop, hopefully she’s getting more than the paltry money that DoorDash pays and the $100 tip that Trump gave to her.

It was fun to see her lightly embarrass Trump when she refused to go along with Trump’s obsession with trans women in sports.
