'The Simpsons' Recruits Jenny Nicholson to Lampoon the 'Star Wars' Hotel
The Simpsons is set to take aim at parent company Disney next month with a new episode, "The Kosmic Kruiser," which will lampoon the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser debacle at Walt Disney World.
The hotel, which was styled as a 3-day cruise on board a cruise ship in the Star Wars universe, gave fans an immersive experience that allowed them to interact with Star Wars characters, enjoy Star Wars-themed entertainment, sleeping arrangements, and meals, and make a trip to a "port of call" at the Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge land at Walt Disney World in Florida. It reportedly cost as much as $1 billion to develop and market, but lasted only around 18 months before Disney closed it down for good.
"The Kosmic Kruiser" is the sixth episode of season 38 of The Simpsons, set to air on November 8. Written by Brian Kelley, the episode sees "Bart and Lisa break into Krustyland's most notorious failed attraction, only to discover that it hasn't been completely abandoned."
Just before Galactic Starcruiser was docked once and for all, YouTube video essayist Jenny Nicholson arrived on the scene to review it. The result, a four-hour video titled The Spectacular Failure of the Star Wars Hotel, went viral as it told both fans and Disney themselves everything they ever needed to know about why the project was a failure.
As it turns out, Disney – or at least the part of Disney that makes The Simpsons – was listening. Nicholson will have an appearance in "The Kosmic Kruiser," reportedly as an animatronic that greets Bart and Lisa.
Here's hoping this time she doesn't get stuck behind a pole.
